This is the c1847 original from which Lees painted his larger version of the same name — exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy in 1851. That larger painting is now permanently in the National Gallery of Scotland, where it is regarded as one of the most important Scottish paintings ever produced.
Any individual or institution acquiring this painting (or the pair of Charles Lees paintings) would hold the greatest golf paintings in the world outside the Royal & Ancient in St Andrews or National Gallery of Scotland.
